Cathedral is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the St. Monica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
Cathedral is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Pasadena 13-5 on Saturday. With that win, the Phantoms brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Lorenzo Salazar made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Salazar was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Valdivia, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Diego Casillas, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Cathedral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, St. Monica made easy work of Hamilton on Thursday and carried off a 12-1 victory.
Like Cathedral, St. Monica also got a great game from a two-way player: Logan Meyer. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Meyer posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Finley Crosby and Liam Bernheimer did most of the damage at the plate: Crosby got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Bernheimer got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Crosby a new career-high. Nico Moya was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
St. Monica's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-1-1. As for Cathedral, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
