Claremont has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Ventura Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Claremont had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 49-40 win over Los Altos on Thursday. Given Claremont's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Los Altos is ranked 302nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Ventura stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They put the hurt on Camarillo with a sharp 65-44 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Ventura.
Skyler Knight continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 8-for-13 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 34 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kailee Staniland, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Claremont pushed their record up to 22-7 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Ventura, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season.
