Clearfield and Central are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2014, but not for long. The Clearfield Bison will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Central Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on October 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Clearfield is ranked 123rd, while Central is ranked 99th).
Last Friday, Clearfield came up short against Richland and fell 35-28.
Despite their loss, Clearfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Will Domico, who threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. Colton Ryan made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Central put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past Bedford 42-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Central, who have now won five matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Eli Muthler, who threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt. Muthler is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Thaide Mickel was another key contributor, rushing for 60 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Bedford to a paltry 104 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Central's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Kasey Imler and his two sacks.
Central's victory bumped their season record to 8-0 while Clearfield's loss dropped theirs to 6-2.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Domico and Muthler. Domico has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 176.6 passing yards and two passing touchdowns per game this season. For his part, Muthler has averaged 252.5 passing yards and three passing touchdowns per game this season.
Clearfield took a serious blow against Central in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 35-6. Can Clearfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
