Baseball Game Preview: South Gate Rams vs. Chavez Eagles

South Gate has gone a perfect 4-0 against Chavez recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Rams will host the Eagles at 10:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Gate has three straight wins, Chavez has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While South Gate didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Kennedy 7-6. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by just one run.

Chavez had taken Arleta down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Eagles took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.

Ivan Martinez was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Salas, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for South Gate, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Everything went South Gate's way against Chavez in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as South Gate made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
