Southern Minnesota recap Oct. 16, 2012
New Ulm Cathedral was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in Southern Minnesota. Earlier in the week, the Greyhounds triumphed over Red Rock Central 40-26.
St. Mary's extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Springfield, 18-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
The Tigers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Menage threw for 63 yards and Zach Wells had 30 yards receiving. On the ground Wells chipped in 51 yards. Cooper Scheffler helped Springfield's passing attack out by catching two balls for 24 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place St. Mary's takes on second place Springfield. Last week, St. Mary's topped Springfield, while Springfield fell to St. Mary's.
Rod Berdan's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,064 from 3,698. The improvement came about via a 18-0 victory over Paul Dunn's team last week.
