Football Recap: Oxford Piles Up the Points Against Kiowa County

Oxford won against Skyline last Friday with 46 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Wildcats took their game with ease, bagging a 46-6 victory over the Kiowa County Mavericks. Fans of the Wildcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Logan Gaither had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 230 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also throwing for 32 yards and one touchdown. Gaither is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Wyatt Gaither got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Oxford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 241 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Oxford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Xzavier McClamy, Gaither, and Wyatt picked up one apiece. Wyatt got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Oxford's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points over those games. As for Kiowa County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Oxford will look to defend their home field on Friday against Udall at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Kiowa County, they will head out to square off against Satanta on Saturday.
