You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Huss Huskies's strategy against the North Gaston Wildcats on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Huss blew the Wildcats out of the water with a 69-34 final score. Given Huss' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Wildcats are ranked 504th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Huss' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savanni Harris led the charge by scoring 22 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. Harris is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Swann, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Huss and bumps their season record up to 9-9. As for North Gaston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.
Huss will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Crest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully the Huskies likes a good challenge. As for North Gaston, they will head out on the road to take on the Storm at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Stuart W. Cramer's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Wildcats have been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
