The Del Mar Dons will head out on the road to take on the Independence 76ers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Del Mar has five straight wins, Independence has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Del Mar posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Westmont 45-42.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Del Mar to victory, but perhaps none more so than Moana Tulua, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Tulua hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Arseama Kibrom was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Independence came up short against Silver Creek on Saturday and fell 41-30.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jodi Regondola, who scored 12 points. That was a full 40% of Independence's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Isabella Aquino, who scored nine points.
Del Mar's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Independence, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
Del Mar beat Independence 48-35 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Del Mar have another victory up their sleeve, or will Independence turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
