The La Costa Canyon Mavericks were the 51-40 winner over the Torrey Pines Falcons when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. La Costa Canyon took a 60-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Torrey Pines on Friday.
La Costa Canyon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keira Colestock, who scored 19 points. Colestock hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali DiBenedetto, who scored 14 points.
Torrey Pines' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grace Trusso, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. Trusso has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Mills, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
La Costa Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Torrey Pines, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Costa Canyon will take on San Dieguito Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Dieguito Academy is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Torrey Pines, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oceanside at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oceanside is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53 points per game.
