The Point Loma Pointers will head out on the road to take on the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Point Loma focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
Point Loma struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (San Diego had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Point Loma lost to San Diego at home by a decisive 45-30 margin. Point Loma has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losing side was boosted by Rachael Morris, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 40% of Point Loma's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Palo Verde Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Imperial 42-36.
Despite their loss, Palo Verde Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Charlotte Dagnino, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Dagnino has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylee McCarthy, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Point Loma's record is now 16-11. As for Palo Verde Valley, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Point Loma have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Palo Verde Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.6 rebounds per game.
