The Eaton Eagles will take on the Archbishop Alter Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Eaton turned things around against Coldwater on Thursday. They skirted past the Cavaliers 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 21, 2025.
Haydn Scott was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Alter never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Cedarville 6-0. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly six runs.
The result came thanks to Grant Mouse's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Noah Reed and Joey Maloney did most of the damage at the plate: Reed went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double, while Maloney went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Archbishop Alter is 2-1 when Reed posts two or more runs, but 6-14 otherwise. Jacob Lekan also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Archbishop Alter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Eaton's record is now 6-15. As for Archbishop Alter, their record now sits at 8-15.
Eaton's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Archbishop Alter, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Eaton continue to outrun the ball?
Eaton skirted past Archbishop Alter 3-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
