The Cranston East Thunderbolts will head out on the road to face off against the Moses Brown Quakers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cranston East is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
On Monday, Cranston East was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-42 to Tiverton.
Despite their defeat, Cranston East saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mya Jiminez, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Jayna Gunderway was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Moses Brown entered their tilt with Tiverton with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Moses Brown blew past Tiverton, posting a 63-34 victory on the road. Moses Brown has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.
Moses Brown's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jaelynn Perez, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five steals, and Lauren Bousquet, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Bousquet is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marielle Nassiff, who scored 12 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Cranston East's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Moses Brown, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's contest: Cranston East have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4 threes per game. It's a different story for Moses Brown, though, as they've been averaging only 4 threes per game. Given Cranston East's sizeable advantage in that area, Moses Brown will need to find a way to close that gap.
Cranston East lost to Moses Brown on the road by a decisive 60-46 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Cranston East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
