The St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins are taking a road trip to square off against the Justin-Siena Braves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Salesian College Preparatory on Tuesday. St. Patrick-St. Vincent blew past Salesian College Preparatory 11-2. While the Bruins didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Madden Mendez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mendez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Logan Lissner looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Bo Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Anthony Eyheralde also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Justin-Siena made easy work of Pinole Valley on Thursday and carried off a 9-1 win. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Griffin Messenger tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tommy Malloy was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Sangiacomo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Justin-Siena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Justin-Siena's record is now 6-2. As for St. Patrick-St. Vincent, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Justin-Siena in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can St. Patrick-St. Vincent avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
