It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mt. Zion had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs, sneaking past 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Braves: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in April, they had to take a 7-0 defeat.
Connor Fox made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Kellen Bollhorst was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Mt. Zion is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mahomet-Seymour, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 24-7.
As of now, neither Mt. Zion nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
