The Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 36-28 to Blue Hill. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Doniphan-Trumbull in their matchups with Blue Hill: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Doniphan-Trumbull saw an underclassman step up: Charlee Richter scored 12 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ridley Sadd, who scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds.
Blue Hill was led to victory by Reece Mlady and Avaley Toepfer. Mlady dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Toepfer scored 10 points.
Doniphan-Trumbull's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Blue Hill, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Doniphan-Trumbull will head out on the road to face off against St. Paul at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully St. Paul focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Blue Hill, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alma on Thursday.
