After flying high against the River City Raiders last Friday, the Kennedy Cougars came back down to earth. Kennedy took a 71-52 bruising from McClatchy on Monday. While losing is never fun, Kennedy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while McClatchy is ranked 42nd).
Despite the loss, Kennedy still got an impressive performance from Kacie Shinmoto, who scored 24 points along with six assists and three steals. Shinmoto is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Tsuye, who scored eight points.
Kennedy's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-8. As for McClatchy, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 20-5.
Kennedy will be playing in front of their home fans against Grant at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Kennedy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday. As for McClatchy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Laguna Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McClatchy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Laguna Creek likes a good challenge.
