The Summerfield Waldorf Mustangs will take on the Sonoma Academy Coyotes at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Summerfield Waldorf will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Summerfield Waldorf is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Making Waves Academy with a sharp 15-7 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Seth Y and Lazlo G were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Y struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, G tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Y has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Y went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while G went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. G has become a key player for Summerfield Waldorf: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luca C, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Summerfield Waldorf is 4-1 when C posts three or more RBI, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Fynn M, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Summerfield Waldorf kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sonoma Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Tomales 10-9. The victory was familiar territory for the Coyotes, who have now won five contests in a row.
Ryan Crawford looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Victor Jennings was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mack Mahoney, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Sonoma Academy pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Summerfield Waldorf, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Summerfield Waldorf has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sonoma Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Summerfield Waldorf suffered a grim 23-4 defeat to Sonoma Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
