Baseball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Lindsay

Independence won the last time they faced Lindsay and things went their way on Monday too. The Falcons put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 12-1 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Jace Gillenwater made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Independence is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Gillenwater was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Alex Reynoso looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Aldo Salcedo was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was David Baralt Portillo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Independence is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Lindsay, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7-1.

Independence has already played their next contest, an 8-4 defeat against Monache on the 15th. As for Lindsay, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-11 loss against Arvin on the 15th.
