After a string of 20 wins, the Newbury Park Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. The contest between Newbury Park and Westlake wasn't particularly close, with Newbury Park falling 63-48. Newbury Park has struggled against Westlake recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Newbury Park's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Greta Heath, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Kierabella Coletta-Todd, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mathis Dritz, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Dritz is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Swanson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Newbury Park's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-2. As for Westlake, they pushed their record up to 11-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newbury Park will take on Thousand Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Thousand Oaks will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 470th, while Newbury Park is ranked 108th). As for Westlake, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Oaks Christian at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Oaks Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
