The Broomfield Eagles will head out to take on the Horizon Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Broomfield's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Silver Creek with a sharp 15-0 win. The Eagles are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 11 straight.
Delaney Meehan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August.
In other batting news, Lauren Hernandez and Lauren Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Hernandez went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Hernandez has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Avery Gines, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.
Broomfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Horizon made easy work of Silver Creek on Wednesday and carried off a 17-0 victory. The Hawks have beaten the Raptors the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Raptors has come to flipping the script.
Like Broomfield, Horizon also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaiya Barela. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Barela was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Larrissa Arvizo was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Tessa Munsch was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Broomfield's record now sits at 18-2. As for Horizon, their record is now 16-6.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Broomfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Broomfield took their win against Horizon in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
