Treyvor Mathews was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Branson's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Bordon, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Berean Christian came tearing into Thursday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Matadors.
Berean Christian's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nick Kullman, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Berean Christian pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Branson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Branson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berean Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Branson came out on top in a nail-biter against Berean Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Bulls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
