The 2025 high school volleyball season is complete and postseason honors continue to roll out today with the unveiling of the MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Team.
The National Sophomore of the Year is
Josalyn Samuels of
Harrisburg (S.D.).
The setter for the nationally-ranked Tigers earned National Freshman of the Year honors in 2024 and coach Ronette Costain said her progression is ahead of her excpectations.
"She doesn't get enough praise for what she does and what she creates," Costain said.
"She doesn't have (a ceiling)," Costain said. "I think I'm going to see her one day have the pick of her Big Ten or Division I college and then I'm sure I'll cheer her on at the Olympics or as a pro. The sky is the limit."
For her three-year Harrisburg career that includes a season on varsity as an eighth-grader, Samuels has 2,974 assists, 491 digs and 246 kills.
State POY finished with 270 kills while hitting 33 percent as
the Raiders earned their first state title since 2022. She had 11 kills
in the championship match against Kahuku.
5-9 | Outside hitter
Notched 374 kills, 233 serve receptions, 132 digs and 37 blocks for the Mustangs (39-9) as they reached the Conference 6A Division 1 state semifinal.
Emerged as a force at the net as the Rockets (40-4) won a 25th state title. She hammered 401 kills with 442 serve receptions and 288 digs as Assumption finished No.6 in the final MaxPreps Top 25.
Chayse Courtney, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.)
6-1 | Outside hitter
The complementary hitter to Minnesota commit Makenna Crosson, Courtney was second on the team with 433 kills. She added 509 serve receptions, 239 digs, 85 aces and 38 blocks as Mitty went 33-4.
Hadley Ennist, Shenendehowa (Clifton Park, N.Y.)
5-11 | Outside hitter
Dropped 352 kills while hitting 32 percent along with 320 assists and 253 digs for the Plainsmen (35-10-3).
6-3 | Opposite hitter
The Scots went 43-8 with a Conference 5A Division 1 state title, the school's first. Floyd paced Highland Park with 380 kills in 117 sets while adding 274 serve receptions, 211 digs, 72 blocks and 62 aces.
The anchor of a defense that helped Carroll go 37-0 with a Class 4A title and No. 5 finish, she had 432 digs, 331 serve receptions and 60 aces.
The Stallions galloped into the Southern Section Division 1 semifinals behind the USA Volleyball gold medalist Hodges. She led the team with 381 kills, adding 73 blocks and 38 aces as San Juan Hills finished 22-7.
6-0 | Opposite hitter
Part of Allen's one-two offensive punch, she piled up 348 kills, 290 serve receptions, 135 digs and 32 aces as her squad finished 37-7. She had a high of 24 kills in a four-set march against Plano East.
6-3 | Outside hitter
The Raiders (38-2) spent more than half the season in the MaxPreps Top 25 with the addition of the Florida transfer. They fell short of their third straight Class AAAAAA title but Lamar tallied 303 kills, 157 digs, 29 aces and 28 blocks.
Julia Lee, Assumption
6-0 | Middle blocker
With a mix of veterans and youngsters, the Rockets grabbed the program's 25th state title. Lee was instrumental with her play at the net, logging 361 kills and 101 blocks.
6-1 | Opposite hitter
Tallied 393 kills with 465 serve receptions, 238 digs, 35 blocks and 30 aces as the Thunder went 27-12 and reached the Class 5A state playoffs.
Tegan Loechler, Divine Savior Holy Angels (Milwaukee, Wis.)
6-4 | Setter
An all-around threat for the Dashers, she had 543 assists along with 308 kills, 212 digs and 95 blocks as Divine Savior was ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 for much of the season.
Lila Martin, Nation Ford (Fort Mill, S.C.)
5-9 | Outside hitter
A Class AAAAA Division 2 state semifinal appearance was led by 490 kills from the Falcons' leading hitter. She added 479 serve receptions, 327 digs 90 aces and 38 blocks as Nation Ford went 36-8.
5-11 | Setter
The next in a long line of Bulldog MaxPreps All-Americans, she dished up 662 assists as Fayetteville went 25-6 and reached the Class 6A championship match.
Quinn Nelson, Marian (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.)
6-0 | Outside hitter
The Mustangs went 44-6 as she led the team in kills with 434 while hitting 30 percent with 336 serve receptions, 236 digs and 88 aces.
5-7 | Setter
Catalyst for a team that was ranked nationally for much of the season, tallying 988 assists, 206 digs, 29 aces and 28 blocks.
The Eagles went 37-7 and reached the 6A Division 1 regional semifinals behind 444 kills from Ogbogu. She added 425 serve receptions, 235 digs and 59 blocks.
5-7 | Libero
Another All-American for the Mustangs along with Nelson, the back-row defender led the team with 438 serve receptions and 340 digs.
5-8 | Libero
The back-row technician had 465 digs, 459 serve receptions and 52 aces as the Colts went 29-11 and reached the Class 6A semifinal.
Shayla Rautenberg, Milford (Neb.)
6-3 | Middle hitter
Led the Class C1 state champion Eagles with 534 kills (5.6 per set). She added 232 serve receptions, 192 digs and 108 blocks as Milford went 33-1.
5-7 | Libero
Anchored the defense as the Tigers went 26-8 and reached the Class 4A state semifinal. She had 700 serve receptions and 641 digs.

National Freshman of the Year a season ago, she backed it up with 1,050
assists in 2025 as the Tigers won a fourth straight state title and

The Falcons (39-6) reached the Conference 6A Division 2 state semifinals pounding a team-high 568 kills (4.0 per set). She added 705 serve receptions, 371 digs and 50 blocks.
5-2 | Libero
Third Sophomore MaxPreps All-America selection shows the future is bright for the Monarchs. But Mitty has a history of producing top-level players having been to the Open Division final in three of the past five seasons. Tran posted 452 serve receptions, 313 digs, 133 assists and 45 aces this season.
5-9 | Outside hitter
The Quakers (29-6) reached the Class 4A state final behind 606 kills from their leading hitter. Utterback added 396 serve receptions, 349 digs and 52 aces and 49 blocks.
Bryn Walcott, Issaquah (Wash.)
6-1 | Outside hitter
Hammered 535 kills with 345 serve receptions, 219 digs, 75 aces and 22 blocks as the Eagles went 18-7 and reached the Class 4A quarterfinals.
5-9 | Outside hitter
The Rockets went 31-12 and reached the Class 5A championship match as she pounded 390 kills with 454 serve receptions, 346 digs and 36 blocks.
Harper Wendlick, Divine Savior Holy Angels6-0 | Outside hitter
The six-rotation standout for the Dashers (44-4) had team-highs in serve receptions (654) and kills (376) along with 293 digs and 41 aces as DSHA reached the state final.
5-8 | Sophmore (Class of 2028) | Uncommitted
An
all-around threat for the No. 11 team in the country, she dished up 524
assists and added 206 kills along with 194 digs. At the Durango Fall
Classic, she had 74 assists and 36 kills over six matches against elite competition.
