Baseball Recap: Indio Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Indio got themselves on the board against Twentynine Palms on Thursday, but Twentynine Palms never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Rajahs, who have now won seven contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Zackary Muniz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Indio: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 8-10 otherwise. Muniz was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Noah Hernandez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Indio is 5-2 when Hernandez allows three or fewer hits, but 7-9 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Indio let Jose Rodriguez and Julian Mandujano run wild. Rodriguez went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Mandujano went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Rodriguez is becoming a predictor of Indio's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-2 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Sanchez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Indio always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Indio is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Twentynine Palms, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Coincidentally, Indio and Twentynine Palms will both be playing Yucca Valley the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will host the Trojans at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, while the Rajahs will host them at 6:00 p.m. on the 28th.
