The Live Oak Acorns will head out to square off against the Ann Sobrato Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Live Oak didn't have quite enough to beat Wilcox and fell 2-1. The Acorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Live Oak saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Casey Scannell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Ann Sobrato had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 last Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 3-1.
DJ Vallejo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aidan Flores, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games he's played.
Ann Sobrato hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Ann Sobrato pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Live Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Live Oak has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ann Sobrato struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Live Oak couldn't quite get it done against Ann Sobrato in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Acorns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
