The Waynesburg Central Raiders had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They came out on top against Brownsville by a score of 49-41. Given Waynesburg Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Brownsville is ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Waynesburg Central had a senior duo take command as Josie Horne scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals and Kaley Rohanna scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Horne has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Addison Blair, who scored five points along with three blocks.
Waynesburg Central's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Brownsville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waynesburg Central will take on Washington at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Brownsville, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Yough at 7:00 p.m.
