To
find out, MaxPreps and Lateral Sports teamed up and found the alma
mater of every player on an NFL roster as of opening day (we included
suspended and injured reserve players). Then we broke it all down by
state and came up with the table below.
You will find that Minnesota has sent 20 players to the league this year and that Cretin-Derham Hall is the only school to have multiple players in the league.
Want some more fun facts? How about these:
- Cretin-Derham Hall had two future NFL players on the roster in 2007, with Seantrel Henderson on the offensive line and Michael (Mike) Floyd running, catching and returning the ball. That team went 13-1, losing in the state title game.
- The Arizona Cardinals' air attack owes a lot of its success to Minnesota. Both Larry Fitzgerald (Academy of the Holy Angels) and Michael Floyd (Cretin-Derham Hall) starred as wide receivers in the state before making it to the NFL.
- And wide receivers are the top export from Minnesota along with offensive tackles, with four each.
- The home-state Vikings have two Minnesota-bred players on the roster as of opening day with Adam Thielen (Detroit Lakes) and Marcus Sherels (John Marshall). The Cardinals, Bills, Jets and Falcons each have two Minnesota players.
