The Mars Fightin' Planets suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 63-42 walloping at the hands of Lincoln Park Performing Arts. While losing is never fun, Mars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Lincoln Park Performing Arts is ranked 12th).
Mars' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vita Vargo, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Cecilia Christy, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Lincoln Park Performing Arts' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jla Kizart, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Kizart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Scott, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Mars' loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Lincoln Park Performing Arts, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mars' road trip will continue as they head out to face Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Hampton will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Lincoln Park Performing Arts, they will head out on the road to challenge Quaker Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Quaker Valley is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
