The Oxnard Yellowjackets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 72-29 stomp they got on the road against St. Bonaventure. Given Oxnard's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while St. Bonaventure is ranked 394th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sofia Salgado was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with eight steals and five assists. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for her. Mikayla Oliver was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Despite the loss, St. Bonaventure saw an underclassman step up: Sarah Cosio scored 17 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Cosio hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games.
Oxnard has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for St. Bonaventure, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
