After a string of 15 wins, Gideon's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of the Bernie Mules by a score of 3-2. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mules earlier this season, when they won 2-0.
Gideon actually scored more points across those five sets (110-107), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 27-25, 18-25, 20-25, 27-25, 15-10.
Layla Watkins paced Gideon's offense, picking up 30 kills. Watkins got some help from Aubree Sharp and her 60 assists.
Gideon's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 24-2. As for Bernie, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-8-1.
Looking ahead, Gideon will take on Risco at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bernie, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Twin Rivers on the 7th.
