Baseball Recap: Exeter Wins Going Away Against South

The matchup between Exeter and South on Monday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Monarchs blew past the Spartans 14-6. Considering the Monarchs have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Cade McElmoyl, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Trimble, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Exeter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Exeter's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for South, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

Coming up, Exeter will face off against Caruthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South, they will challenge West at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.82 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
