The Wheatland Pirates struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Bear River Bruins had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wheatland was outmatched by the Bruins at home and fell 63-30. While losing is never fun, Wheatland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 830th, while the Bruins are ranked 286th).
Wheatland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Michaela Davis, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 40% of Wheatland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Bear River was led to victory by Taryn Cleek and Krissy Kelly. Cleek scored 18 points along with five steals, while Kelly scored 19 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Kelly is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. Cass Craig was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Wheatland has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Bear River, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheatland will take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bear River, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Indians at 5:30 p.m. Marysville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
