The San Antonio Memorial Minutemen struggled with assists on Friday (the La Vernia Bears had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. San Antonio Memorial was outmatched by the Bears at home and fell 80-34. San Antonio Memorial has struggled against the Bears recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
San Antonio Memorial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ariel Ojeda, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Mystery Ojeda was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and four steals.
La Vernia found their leader in underclassman Lacey Matney, who shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Claira Fike, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
San Antonio Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 3-27. As for La Vernia, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 25-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Antonio Memorial will take on the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Vernia, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gobblers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cuero is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
