Fairland dropped down to 11-6 on Monday, ending the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Pawhuska Huskies by a score of 13-12. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Owls, who until this game were averaging 3.59 runs allowed.
McKenna Hicks spent all 9.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and eight unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Addilyn Lollar was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Ross, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
As for Pawhuska, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
On Pawhuska's side, Mylee Jensen made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 8.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Jensen has posted since back in August. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with two runs.
In other batting news, Katie Drummond was incredible, going 4-for-6 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jaycee Bohard was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Looking ahead, Fairland will challenge Salina at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pawhuska, they will square off against Woodland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
