The San Juan Hills Stallions and the Portola Bulldogs will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
San Juan Hills has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season. They blew past Bonita 62-41. The win was just what San Juan Hills needed coming off of a 67-43 defeat in their prior match.
San Juan Hills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anna Shreeve led the charge by scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Shreeve has scored at least 25% of San Juan Hills' points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Peterson, who scored ten points along with nine steals and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Portola waltzed into their game Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They secured a 42-38 W over Santa Margarita. Given Portola's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Santa Margarita is ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
San Juan Hills is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Portola, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
San Juan Hills was able to grind out a solid win over Portola in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, winning 56-48. Does San Juan Hills have another victory up their sleeve, or will Portola turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
