The Xavier Prep Saints will be playing in front of their home fans against the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday. Xavier Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Palo Verde Valley likes a good challenge.
Xavier Prep meant business on Tuesday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Bobcats squad that has allowed just 23.75 points per contest. Xavier Prep really took it to Hamilton for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-10 win at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-4.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Xavier Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaden Williams, who scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Amoree Ferrel, who scored 11 points along with 6 assists and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Palo Verde Valley had to suffer through a rough 75-28 loss at the hands of Morse. While losing is never fun, Palo Verde Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Morse is ranked 32nd).
Despite the loss, Palo Verde Valley got a solid performance out of Charlotte Dagnino, who scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds. Dagnino scored a full 64.3% of Palo Verde Valley's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Their wins bumped Xavier Prep to 3-0 and Hamilton to 3-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's contest: Xavier Prep have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 9.7 threes per game. It's a different story for Palo Verde Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 2 per game. Given Xavier Prep's sizeable advantage in that area, Palo Verde Valley will need to find a way to close that gap. Everything came up roses for Xavier Prep against Palo Verde Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2019 as the squad secured a 64-28 win. Does Xavier Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Palo Verde Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
