While it was all tied up 22-22 at halftime, the Exeter Monarchs were not quite the Selma Bears's equal in the second half on Thursday. Exeter lost to Selma on the road by a decisive 52-33 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Exeter in their matchups with Selma: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Exeter saw an underclassman step up: Georgia Lockett scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Chloe Sparrow, who scored six points.
Exeter's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6. As for Selma, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.
Exeter will head out on the road to face off against Central Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Valley Christian is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Selma will take on Washington Union at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Washington Union will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 993rd, while Selma is ranked 403rd).
