The Newton-Conover Red Devils suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against East Burke, falling 74-31. Newton-Conover was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-15.
Newton-Conover lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Grayson Rowe, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Samiyah Hope, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Newton-Conover struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Braelyn Stilwell, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals for East Burke. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stilwell has scored all season. Kara Brinkley was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Newton-Conover has fallen quite a ways from their 25-5 record last season and are now at 3-10. As for East Burke, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton-Conover's road trip will continue as they head out to face West Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. West Lincoln has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for East Burke, they will head out on the road to face off against Bunker Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bunker Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 513th, while East Burke is ranked 17th).
