Culver Community extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-14. They lost 10-2 to the Winamac Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-5 on Thursday.
Caleb McCuen made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Drake Zorich, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Winamac, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
On Winamac's side, Hutch Martin and Bryant Galbreath made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Martin pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Galbreath didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Winamac is 4-2 when Martin allows two or fewer earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise. At bat, Martin went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Galbreath got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Galbreath a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Malchow, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Cody Wheeler was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, Culver Community will challenge South Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Satellites have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.79 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Winamac, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 5-3 defeat against West Central on the 22nd.
