The La Quinta Aztecs will take on the Orange Panthers at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. La Quinta is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
La Quinta fell victim to Western Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fightng Lancers. That's two games in a row now that the Aztecs have lost by exactly five runs.
La Quinta handed starting duties to Zaid Camacho, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs Camacho has allowed since back in March.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Orange, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Bolsa Grande on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Orange also got a great performance from Cooper Gschwend-Son as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The Panthers are 7-2 when Gschwend-Son allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abraham Ontiveros, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Orange: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evan Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI.
Orange kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Orange is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for La Quinta, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-15.
La Quinta suffered a grim 20-1 defeat to Orange in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Will the Aztecs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
