Basketball Recap: Montgomery Piles Up the Points Against Mount Miguel

There's no place like home for Montgomery, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 62-16 stomp they got against the Mount Miguel Matadors. That 46 point margin sets a new team best for the Aztecs this season.

Paula Zumstein continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-5 from deep and dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in December of 2023. Cary Brown was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Montgomery smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Mount Miguel still got an impressive performance from Laylah Castro, who posted nine points. That was a full 56.3% of Mount Miguel's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Montgomery's record is now 7-4. As for Mount Miguel, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Montgomery wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-36 victory against Morse on the 27th. As for Mount Miguel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Calexico on the 27th.
