Southern/Diller-Odell had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 6-16 to make it eight. They came up short against the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines, falling 8-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Southern/Diller-Odell couldn't push the score so high this time.
Southern/Diller-Odell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reegan Lauby, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Morgan Steensnes also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Wilber-Clatonia, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.
On Wilber-Clatonia's side, Kariss Rosenthal and Gabby Vlcan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rosenthal didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Vlcan tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rosenthal went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Vlcan went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Vlcan has posted since back in August.
In other batting news, Wilber-Clatonia got a big performance out of Mollie Bates, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Bates a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aria Polite, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern/Diller-Odell will head out to take on Cozad at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern/Diller-Odell's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Haymakers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Wilber-Clatonia, they are taking a road trip to square off against Syracuse at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
