Westside extended their losing streak to ten on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-11. They came up short against the Callaway Cavaliers, falling 18-6. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-0 defeat on Friday.
Westside saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that Jackson has brought in this season. Another was James Neville, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Callaway, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Callaway's side, they got a great performance from Jax Campbell as he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Campbell a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Hawk, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Stinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coming up, Westside is taking a road trip to face off against Pike County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Callaway, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Cavaliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
