When it comes to explaining why John Adams Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elliott Schwartz. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with nine steals and five assists. That was a full 47.1% of John Adams Academy's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Sabbagh, who scored four points along with two steals.
Alaziah "Lay" Akinmurele was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with nine steals and six rebounds for Fortune Early College. Akinmurele hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Zakiyyah Abdul - Azeem, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
John Adams Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5. As for Fortune Early College, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
John Adams Academy will take on Sacramento Adventist at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sacramento Adventist's defense has only allowed 27 points per game this season, so John Adams Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Fortune Early College, they will head out on the road to challenge Sacramento at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
