Baseball Recap: Gridley Has No Trouble Against Corning

Gridley won the last time they faced Corning and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bulldogs blew past the Cardinals 14-5. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Trey Rosser and Eli Punzo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rosser pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Punzo didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Rosser went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Punzo got on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Rosser a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marcus Duncan, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Talan Sannar, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.

Gridley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive games.

Gridley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Corning, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9-1.

Looking ahead, Gridley will take on Pitman in a tournament on Friday. As for Corning, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Orland at 4:00 p.m. on the 14th.
