Reedley is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Selma Bears at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Reedley comes in on six and Selma on three.
Reedley took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Lemoore, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Reedley had just enough and edged out Lemoore 2-1 on Thursday. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mason Cisneros spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Reedley's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alex Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Reedley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Selma won against Morro Bay on Saturday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. Selma beat Fresno Christian by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-1.
Jovani Tovar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Braden Francis was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Matthew Esparza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Reedley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Selma, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Selma's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Reedley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Selma, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Reedley's hitters?
Reedley might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Selma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Reedley have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
