There's no place like home for the Mira Mesa Marauders, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 50-37 victory over San Diego on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mira Mesa also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Ivorii Seals continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with nine steals and eight rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Mira Mesa's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marianne Garong, who scored eight points.
San Diego's loss came despite strong showings from Mackenzie Nitzel and Lara Saucedo. Nitzel scored six points along with 19 rebounds, while Saucedo scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Saucedo continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Even though they lost, San Diego were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mira Mesa only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Mira Mesa's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for San Diego, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Mira Mesa will be playing at home against Point Loma at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Point Loma is ranked 545th, while Mira Mesa is ranked 561st). As for San Diego, they will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
