Poquoson is 2-8 against New Kent since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Poquoson Islanders will be playing at home against the New Kent Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Poquoson has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 12.
Last Wednesday, Poquoson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to Bruton. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Poquoson in their matchups with Bruton: they've now lost six in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dayne Galacgac, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Khaleo Smith, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, New Kent was able to grind out a solid victory over Warhill on Wednesday, taking the game 52-45. Given New Kent's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Warhill is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poquoson dropped their record down to 1-18 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for New Kent, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
Poquoson was dealt a bruising 77-30 loss at the hands of New Kent in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of New Kent's Marty Wray, who scored 17 points. Now that Poquoson knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
