The Del Oro Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Rodriguez Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Oro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Del Oro is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They beat Atwater by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Eagles.
Jackson Gray tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.
At the plate, Rusty Ducharme was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Crosby Pilgrim, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez beat Whitney 8-5 on Wednesday.
Rodriguez also got a great performance from Nick Schikore as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Schikore has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tavin Schmidt, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Nateo Victorio was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Rodriguez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitney only posted an OBP of .371.
Del Oro's record now sits at 16-10-1. As for Rodriguez, their record is now 21-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Del Oro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rodriguez struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
