The Roosevelt Rough Riders came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Torres by a score of 62-51. That's another feather in the cap for Roosevelt, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Roosevelt was led to victory by Taylor Sutherland and Nyleigh Gregory. Sutherland dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Gregory scored 32 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gregory has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizsandra Torres, who scored no points along with 12 rebounds and five blocks.
Torres lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being J'Lynn Mitchell, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Nevaeh Chavez was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with two steals.
Roosevelt pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.5 points. As for Torres, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.
Roosevelt will head out on the road to take on Sunnyside at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sunnyside is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Torres, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McLane at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McLane will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 949th, while Torres is ranked 415th).
