Despite the loss, Valley Center saw an underclassman step up: Mykayla Degen scored 9 points along with 9 steals. Roxana Contreras was another key contributor, scoring 2 points along with 10 rebounds and 5 steals.
Leading Tri-City Christian to victory were Katie Busch and Talia Anthony. Busch scored 9 points along with 14 rebounds and 5 blocks, while Anthony scored 18 points along with 3 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Anthony has scored at least 25% of Tri-City Christian's points.
Valley Center's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Tri-City Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Valley Center will head out on the road to face off against Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Valley Center likes a good challenge. As for Tri-City Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Borrego Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Borrego Springs comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
